One rainy Friday in May I had the pleasure of meeting up with Amber and her Marine Joe for their wedding photography at The Bay Pointe Inn located on Gun Lake in Shelbyville. Shelbyville is between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo off US131 and although it’s not the birthplace of The Simpsons, it is home to this beautiful hotel, restaurant/inn, and intimate banquet facility.
I often times am happy for a cloudy day and even for some rain with a wedding because I’m often times known for the most dramatic photography with powerful skies and interesting props. The radar on this day was so speckled I didn’t know what to expect but since I went over the options before the wedding day and the staff at the Bay Pointe Inn was so good about helping the couple out everything went fine.
Amber was surrounded by many friends and family members as she got ready for her ceremony. I was quite shocked since she spoke of a laid back and small wedding but then transformed with a stunning veil, dress, jewelry, and bouquet.
Joe was dressed perfectly in his handsome Marine uniform for this semi-Military Wedding on the lake and his other friends added a lot of class with their uniforms.
As usual, the rain not only didn’t slow us down but actually helped enhance the photos including this 2009 favorite of the two of them standing on the dock resting their heads up against each other.
The timing was PERFECT for the first dance and cake cutting. The balance of the flash with the light outside the veranda gave a spectacular display of color!
All in all this proved to be a very fun group that took fantastic wedding pictures. This is not a wedding album or storybook but just a little tour highlighting the Bay Pointe Inn and this gorgeous couple!
