Driving along a busy and slow road around the park as people searched for bears, I snuck my favorite shot of the trip out my car window, no joke!
We took a quick mid-summer break to explore the mountains with a little adventure through Tennessee and North Carolina. It’s becoming a regular thing for my wife Michele, our daughter Lily, and me to bring friends. On this one we went with our friend Jenny to celebrate her birthday in Tennessee.
Along the side of the little road sat a crow just watching and waiting.
The dramatic man-made lighting made a beautiful shot in what would otherwise be the darkest place you’ve ever been in the world deep underground!
After a 4.2 mile hike, we reached Abrams Falls where people were frolicking like dolphins.
All over the Smokey Mountains you see waterfalls and where you see that, you see tons of cars and people dangerously along side the road 😉
Coming down off the chimney tops mountain trail near sugar land, it was getting dark but a nice time for a low-key landscape photo.

On our way up the chimney tops hiking path we finally started seeing some blue sky. It had been cloudy before as we were under the clouds.
The evening was pretty great but as we got closer to Clingmans Dome the mist began and it was colder and colder.
An amazing place to visit is the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences near McMinnville Tennessee where they have expanding hiking and biking paths that open-up to beautiful views!
The path to Abrams Falls is a rich and beautiful 4 mile path through a forest that looks a bit like a hilly or mountainous “Michigan”. Just like home but with thinner humid air!
